Poster Stamp - Brown Portrait
This poster stamp, possibly issued in Hungary in 1921, features a left-facing portrait of Dante within a decorative floral background with the faces of three putti. Below the portrait is a label with text as follows: "DANTE-ALIGHIERI / 1265~1321". The stamp is signed in the lower right corner by an unknown artist. A version of the stamp is known with a blue overprint leaving the word "BUDAPEST" and the year "1921" in white. Both the regular and overprinted versions are known in perforated and imperforate states.
